Reflections from the Field: GATEway to Greatness

Entering only its second year, the Greenville Alternative Teacher Education (GATE) program provided a unique pathway for 18 new math and science teachers to teach in middle and high school classrooms across Greenville County Schools.

GATE is possible in part due to PEP’s partnership with Duke Energy, which resulted in the establishment of the Duke Energy GATE Fellowship to support GATE teachers’ entry into, and first years in the classroom.

Thank you also to fellow OnTrack Greenville partner BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life) for providing the opportunity for these teachers to learn from and with your scholars at Tanglewood Middle, Lakeview Middle, and Berea Middle Schools.

And of course, big shout-outs to Dr. Debra Smith Lee, Candice Moore, and the Greenville County School District team for their leadership, partnership, and dedication to Greenville’s schools, teachers, and students. Collective impact in action!
