PEP and Coalition Partners Oppose Private School Vouchers

On January 14th, Public Education Partners (PEP), along with Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM) and South Carolina Future Minds (SCFM), submitted joint written testimony to the Senate S.556 Subcommittee regarding a proposed private school voucher bill known as the Equal Opportunity Education Scholarship Account Act.

Voucher programs like Education Scholarship Accounts (ESA) reallocate taxpayer dollars for private and religious educational spending with little accountability or oversight. By the state’s own estimation, the program would cost public schools $223 million in its first year alone. Our students, teachers, and schools can’t afford cuts of that big, especially when the legislature isn’t currently meeting its legal duty to fully fund public education.

PEP, SAM, and SC Future Minds oppose S.556 and are encouraging our elected officials to vote no on the bill. Please join us by clicking here – public schools need champions like you!
