Angel Whaley

Interim President and CEO

Angel is the Interim President and CEO for Public Education Partners and brings 5 years of public education experience to PEP.

She is responsible for making the PEP donor experience enjoyable and rewarding, and she loves helping supporters see the impact of their investment. She leads logistics for PEP’s major events: An Extracurricular Evening and Partner of the Year, both of which provide an opportunity for PEP to connect with the greater Greenville community and strengthen supporters’ commitment to public education initiatives. Finally, she is responsible for transforming innovative ideas into grant proposals and conducting research on potential funding sources, both locally and nationally.

Angel hails from the great state of Ohio and holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Science with a focus on Early Childhood Education from The Ohio State University. She also has a Master’s in Education from the University of St. Thomas.

Prior to joining PEP in September 2015, she was the education coordinator for United Way of Greater Houston. Angel was also a corps member of Teach for America and taught sixth grade ELA at Alexander Hamilton Middle School for three years. In addition, she spent a year as a freshman/sophomore seminar instructor at YES Prep, which involved sharing college and career readiness skills with students.

Outside the office, Angel mentors two middle school girls at Hughes Academy and Mauldin Middle School through Mentor Upstate and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She loves to read, listen to music and try new recipes and restaurants. Angel recently married a Clemson Tiger and manages to cheer for both the Buckeyes and the Tigers on Saturdays.

Most Rewarding Aspect of Working with PEP

The individuals

“The most rewarding aspect of working with PEP is the teachers, parents, and students we meet while working in schools. Greenville has so many community members willing to engage with us to figure out how to best serve our students and teachers. GCS teachers have endless creativity and being able to provide free books or bringing teachers’ innovative projects to life brings so much joy to the students.”
